Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid is set to embark on a significant diplomatic visit to the United States, where he will engage with key government officials and prominent senators in Washington. Lapid's visit comes at a crucial time, as political tensions in Israel continue to escalate.

As per a Telegram post from his office, Lapid will depart for the US tonight to kick off his series of high-profile meetings. Among the notable figures on his agenda are US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and US national security adviser Jake Sullivan. Additionally, Lapid is scheduled to meet with influential senators from both the Democratic and Republican parties.

During his visit, Lapid is expected to hold discussions with Senate Foreign Relations Committee chairman Sen. Ben Cardin, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and South Carolina Republican Sen. Lindsey Graham. These meetings are anticipated to cover a range of pressing issues, including regional security, bilateral relations, and the political landscape in Israel.

Notably, Lapid's visit to Washington follows a recent call he made for Israel's current government to resign. This call came in response to a proposal by Israeli war cabinet minister Benny Gantz, a key political rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, for parliamentary elections to be held in September.
