Islanders Star Takes Shot at Former Team’s Fans in Vancouver

Bo Horvat is settling into life in New York following the trade deadline deal that sent him to the Islanders from the Canucks. Amid the Islanders’ push for a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, Horvat took a jab at his old team and the fan base in Vancouver, indicating that the atmosphere on Long Island was superior to that in British Columbia.

“It’s been unbelievable. It’s a lot better than Vancouver, I’ll tell you that for free,” said Horvat, taking a jab at his former team while showing love to Isles fans at UBS Arena.

The Islanders secured an important win over the Flyers on Saturday, maintaining a one-point lead over the Penguins with the season winding down. The 28-year-old center provided two assists in the victory, but perhaps his biggest highlight game during the postgame interview.

Horvat was traded to the Islanders at the NHL trade deadline in exchange for Anthony Beauvillier, Aatu Raty, and a conditional first-round pick. He then signed an eight-year, $68 million extension with the organization, which will run through the 2030-31 season.

Despite spending nine seasons playing for the Canucks in front of the fans at the Rogers Arena, Horvat unapologetically declared the Islanders had the superior fan base and home ice support.

The Islanders have two games left in the regular season as they look to lock up a playoff spot via the wild card. They’ll be in Washington to face the Capitals on Monday and then will host the Canadiens on Wednesday in their season finale.
