Isa Guha responds to 'new Sue Barker' tag after ex-cricketer leads BBC Wimbledon coverage

Former England cricketer Isa Guha is the face of the BBC's cricket coverage, but transitioned into presenting other sports this year as she helped front their Wimbledon and Commonwealth Games broadcasts.

The original plan for Wimbledon was for Guha to 'shadow' broadcasting legend and former tennis star Sue Barker as she worked on the tournament for the final time before retiring. However, after the 66-year-old asked to start at 1pm, Guha was tasked with fronting the BBC's broadcast for the first two hours.

And when asked about suggestions she is being lined up to become the 'new Sue Barker' following her retirement, Guha told the Mail on Sunday : "Look, Sue Barker is irreplaceable. Sue was an incredible broadcaster and she was really emotional in her last few days.

"We were all sat in the studio watching that support for her during those final Sunday celebrations and it was really heartening, and I was just so in awe of what she's done. On your journey, you're always striving to be the best you can be.

"And you can never be anyone else. That's just how it is.

"So, people say what they want to say but for me it's just about trying to be the best presenter I can be, and if people enjoy what I do then great. That's all I've ever wanted to do, really.

"It's not just about me. Because I feel like I have a role to play in shaping how a broadcast should be, how it should look and feel, and the stories that we're telling."

Guha spent more than a decade playing international cricket for England, making 113 appearances across all three formats and helping them win the 2009 T20 World Cup.

After announcing her retirement in 2012 at the age of 26, she moved into broadcasting and has worked for the BBC, ITV, Sky and Fox.
