Is your name on the list? Met Office announces storm names for 2019/2020

We've had Ali, Freya, Gareth and Idris, and now all upcoming storms for the next year have been duly named.

The Met Office recently asked the British public to put forward their suggestions , something it's been doing since 2015.

Now the winners have been announced by the Met Office and Met Éireann and there's a real mix on the list.

However, in line with the US National Hurricane Centre and due to the low number of names that begin with these letters, storms aren't called names beginning with Q, U, X, Y and Z.

Oh, and you won't see 'Patrick' on the list as staff have said it's "a bit cliché-Irish."

Other names which are also taken out of the running are ones which aren't in fact proper names.

To this end, the Met Office rejected Apocalypse, Baldrick, Big Boss, Gnasher, Hot Brew, root ripper, Stormageddon, Ssswetcaroline, Vader, Voldermort and branch wobbler.

Hammer, Hades, Freebooter, Forkbeard, Megatron, Bluetooth, In A Teacup, Noddy and Poacher - none of these made the final cut either.
