Is the Stock Market Open on July 4th?

Lit sparkler in front of american flag.

Is the stock market open on July 4th? The answer to this question is no. The stock market will be closed Friday, July 4, for the Independence Day holiday. Bond traders will get a late-week break, too, with the bond market also closed on Friday.

What's more, both the stock and bond markets close early on Thursday, July 3, at 1 pm and 2 pm Eastern time, respectively, so that market participants can get a head start on their Fourth of July festivities.

Investors are likely feeling plenty of optimism heading into the second half of the year after the main indexes closed out the first half at or near record highs.

And Clark Bellin, president and chief investment officer of Bellwether Wealth, thinks the setup for the second half is "quite goldilocks with trade deals, the potential for an extension of the 2017 tax cuts, calmer geopolitical tensions, and a Federal Reserve that is warming up to near-term interest rate cuts."

Bellin believes leadership from the tech stocks will continue through year's end amid ongoing excitement around all things artificial intelligence (AI). And while he admits that stocks are expensive right now, he advises investors to be "on the lookout for pullbacks."

Meanwhile, for those wondering what time does the market open for regular trading hours, both the Nasdaq Stock Market and the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE) run from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm Eastern time Monday through Friday.

Are banks open on July 4th? The answer to that question is no. Friday, July 4, is one of several bank holidays in 2025, and so banks will also be closed.

Below, we feature a full schedule of all stock market and bond market holidays for 2025.
