Is the starting QB job Dwayne Haskins’ to lose?

There is a QB competition taking place at spring camp in Washington D.C., but the winner of the job is widely thought to be decided already.

While Dwayne Haskins and Case Keenum duke it out in OTAs, coaches are looking on to decide who will give the Redskins a greater chance at victory in the coming season. The feeling around the team is that Haskins will come out on top.

“He throws a nice ball and at times makes throws others just can’t,” said ESPN’s John Keim. “Haskins clearly looks like someone who will win the job at some point.”

The mention of “at some point” signifies that it will eventually be Haskins’ team, but there could be a stretch of games to start his career where it’s the bench he sees, not the field. Keenum could prove to be a capable starter for the Redskins if given the chance, and he has already showed that he can motivate his rookie protege and drive him to be better through competition.

Haskins is far from a finished product. Keim notes that there are times when “his passes are a little off — sometimes to the wrong shoulder or just a misfire” and that there is still much development to be done. Will those improvements be made before Week 1, or will Keenum be given the reigns to start the season for Washington?

It’s impossible to say as of yet, but the way things look, it may be Haskins’ job to lose.
