Is the FM26 In-Game Editor Finally Working After the Latest Patch?

After complaints flooded in about issues with the In-Game Editor in Football Manager 26, a hotfix update appears to have fixed most of the issues. Previously, the In-Game Editor (a standalone purchase for FM26) was riddled with crashes, budgeting and transfer issues, and save corruptions. The patch resolves several of the worst issues, but there still appear to be some lingering complaints post-patch.

Sports Interactive quietly pushed out Update 26.0.5, and early player testing suggests that the editor is now usable again. Essential features, such as moving players between clubs, adjusting transfer and wage budgets, and moving Free Agent staff to your team, now work as intended.

There’s Still Work To Be Done

Before the hotfix, the editor would sometimes soft-lock the game when moving players, break budgets, and cause crashes when opening certain scenes. With FM26 already under fire for a rocky launch, the editor’s complete failure only amplified frustration. Many players prefer to use the In-Game Editor for custom saves, realism tweaks, or personal sandbox-style play. For something that costs nearly an additional $10 on top of the base game, you’d expect it to work straight away.

And while the update does get the core functionality of the IGE up and running, it’s not a clean sweep. The community is still reporting issues, particularly when moving coaches to under-21 or under-18 teams. Apparently, when moving staff to become these teams’ Assistant Coach, your first team Assistant Coach gets sacked.

Editor-accessed registration changes also appear inconsistent, with some reporting that they can no longer register a newly edited-in player in existing saves. Other remaining problems include hard locks when changing nationalities, rare crashes when editing contracts glitched to “1900” expiry dates, and broken scheduling data for Portugal’s lower-tier leagues. The summary here is that the editor has gone from practically unusable to functional with caveats, so still not perfect.

Other Fixes From The Update

Beyond the In-Game Editor fixes, FM26 version 26.0.5 comes with a substantial list of general stability and polish improvements that address a lot of issues. Several matchday crashes were reported on macOS devices, which should now be fixed. Freezes during 2D view, and slowdowns in single-player and online sessions are also addressed. Core UI features have also been tightened up, with fixes to column alignment, squad planner star ratings, career milestones, player search behaviour, and various visual faults that previously made some menus feel unfinished.
