Is Friends being removed from Netflix?

Netflix has shut down speculation that Friends is being taken off the site after it was reported to be moving to a new Warner Bros streaming platform.

Fans were sent into meltdown after it was claimed 236 episodes of the cult classic sitcom, which follows a group of best friends as they tackle life in New York, could be removed in a matter of months.

The reports came after Warner Bros boss Kevin Reilly supposedly hinted the show would be moving across to their new unnamed streaming platform, whilst at the TCA press tour.

According to Variety, he said: “For the most part, sharing destination assets like that is not a good idea. Expect that the crown jewels of Warner will ultimately end up on the service.”

But Netflix UK has since reassured fans, insisting the iconic show is not going anywhere.

Using a hilarious meme of staple character Monica Geller counting, to illustrate their frustrations, the streaming platform tweeted: “How many times we need to tell you Friends isn't leaving.”

Relieved users were quick to respond with how happy they were that the reports had been put to bed with a string of memes from the show.

This is the second time in the past three months Netflix has been forced to shut down speculation the show is leaving the platform.

In December, fans were left panicked after a number of users spotted an end date on the programme’s detail page, suggesting January 1 as the final date. However, the site later confirmed that the show is “going nowhere.”

The Warner Bros project spanned 10 seasons from 1994 until 2004 and starred Jennifer Aniston, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, Courteney Cox and Matthew Perry as leads.

Aniston, who celebrated her 50th birthday this weekend, left fans of the show feeling very emotional after former co-star Cox paid a sweet tribute to the star online.

Cox gushed over Aniston, who played Rachel Green, adding that the world “got brighter” when she was born.
