Boris Johnson says he is an Oasis fan... sort of.
The Prime Minister blurted out the band name when asked if he was a fan of the city’s music.
During a visit to North Manchester General Hospital on Sunday morning, Mr Johnson sat down with the Manchester Evening News to discuss NHS funding.
We also asked how he would spend a day in Manchester, if he didn’t have to rush back to Westminster after the Conservative Party Conference.
“I think I would go, as I’ve done many times, for a wander down the canals and then probably go in one of the bars and hang out,” he said.
“It’s absolutely beautiful. Obviously it’s a cliché but the stuff that’s happening in Manchester now is extraordinary.”
When asked if he was a fan of the city’s musicians he admitted: “Yes but up to a point I wouldn’t want to be interrogated too much on any of that stuff."
After a short pause, Mr Johnson bellowed: “Oasis”.
“That’s Manchester isn’t it? Long time ago now. Shows my age.
“Don’t cross examine me too closely on the Manchester music scene because I’m going to fail.”
It is not currently known if the Gallagher brothers and other members of Oasis are fans of Mr Johnson.
