Irvine Meadow co-boss Colin Spence is hoping to land another knockout blow on Kilwinning Rangers – by finishing above them in the league.
Spence was delighted to see his side claim the derby spoils for the season on Saturday as Meadow won 1-0 at Buffs Park.
The win put Meadow beyond the magic 50-point mark that should be enough to keep them out the West of Scotland League Premier Division trapdoor.
But it also took Meadow to within nine points of fifth placed Buffs. And with five games in hand on their rivals - who have just one league game left against title hopefuls Darvel - catching them is a realistic ambition.
Spence reckons his side's recent results mean they can take great confidence going into their last six games.
He said: “The boys should really go and believe in themselves now.
"We've gone away to Pollok and Kilwinning and got two fantastic results. It'll give the boys a real shot in the arm - it should.
“You’d like to think we’ve done enough to get ourselves safe and with the games in hand we can maybe look at catching the teams above us like Hurlford and Kilwinning.
“We’ll just look at it one game at a time and we’ll see how high we can go in the league.”
Spence dedicated Meadow's latest derby win to the club's supporters.
He added: "To come and beat your closest rival and win two out the three derby games, that gives the fans the bragging rights.
"They can go and enjoy the summer now knowing that we've won the last two derbies.
"I'm delighted for the fans because they've been through the wringer a wee bit."
Meadow face relegation-battling Largs away this Saturday and Spence admits he's wary of coming up against Stuart Davidson's men.
“It’s games like that we’ve struggled in for some reason since the Christmas break," he said.
"One thing for sure is Stuart will have them well organised and fired up to so you need to match that.
“But our away record has probably been as good as anyone in the league. We’ve lost three away all season so it doesn’t phase us.”
