Irvine Meadow chairman gives take on Brian McGinty's exit and future team plans

Irvine Meadow chairman Robert Jeffrey insists Brian McGinty decision to quit the hotseat came as a 'complete surprise'.

McGinty resigned as manager last night, citing a 'difference of opinion' on how the club should move forward on the football front.

Jeffrey refused to be drawn on that particular point but said the club would be in a better position to comment on Friday.

He insisted he was disappointed to see McGinty leave after just over two years in charge.

"It really did come as a complete surprise to me, said Jeffrey.

Club captain Ben Carson has met with Jeffrey (Irvine Herald)

"I've known Brian for years, since he was a player at the club, and we've always got on great with each other. In fact, I consider him a good friend.

"We're grateful for the job he did here and he goes with my best wishes."

Jeffrey revealed that a senior player or players will take the team for Saturday's league derby match against Kilwinning Rangers.

"The players have been called in for a meeting on Thursday night and a decision will be made after that, he added.

"I've already spoken to the club captain Ben Carson but we'll know more come Friday."
