Irvine Meadow boss Brian McGinty feared a derby day ear-bashing from benched skipper

Irvine Meadow manager Brian McGinty joked how he feared ending up in captain Ben Carson’s bad books again after benching him for the Marymass derby.

The Medda skipper was given the last 15 minutes against Irvine Vics and made an immediate impact – teeing up Neil Slooves for the header that put the visitors 2-1 in front.

Meadow went on to win 4-1 and McGinty revealed: “We got Benji on because he nips my ear when he doesn’t play in these games. He fell out with me last year.

“I’m delighted for the local boys because they get a wee bit of stick if they don’t beat the Vics.

“As much as it’s not high up on my priority list, for the likes of Spenny, young Liam, Jared and Ben it was important we won.”
