The annual Marymass festival has been cancelled for the second consecutive year due to COVID-19.
Planners say they could not promise that all guidelines would be adhered to at the Irvine event and were forced to axe the historic celebration again.
On the Marymass Festival Facebook page, planners posted: "Due to the ongoing restrictions, Irvine Carters Society have taken the unavoidable decision to cancel this year's Forth Port Parade and Captains Parade including the Moor activities for 2021.
"After considering all possible options and in discussion with our partners, with much reluctance, we must conclude that due to the continuing long list of unknowns it would not be possible to hold this year's festival.
"The health and well-being of the Irvine community is of paramount importance to us and in the current climate, both Irvine Carters and Marymass Festival Committee would be unable to guarantee that they could comply with all necessary requirements in order to make the events safe for all. Therefore, the cancellation has been the only option.
"We would support those third-party events during Marymass that could comply with all relevant guidance and restrictions."
This is now the third time in history the beloved annual festival has been thrown in to turmoil in its 93 years. The festival was cancelled from 1940 to 1945 as the Second World War raged on.
And this will be the second year Kerris-Lee Galloway will be reigning Marymass Queen with her Marys Molly Scott, Brooke Chapman, Erin Russell and Aimee McNulty.
