The Irishman who won TV quiz show Mastermind has told how he thought he threw away his chances of victory.
Dublin quizzer Dave McBryan was crowned the champion of the BBC series on Monday night.
Dave, 46, said: "I knew I was up against some strong opposition, obviously I made a couple of errors, silly mistakes and I thought I’d lost it.
“I thought I’d thrown it away because there was two people to go after me in the general knowledge round and although I’d beaten the three who went before it wasn’t a hugely high target, so I thought they were going to overtake me but thankfully they didn’t.”
The full-time pub quizmaster has experience on TV, having won the final of Channel 4’s quiz show Fifteen to One in 2014.

However, the Edinburgh based contestant said the final was "a nerve-wracking affair".
Although relishing the big win, Dave honestly admitted that title wouldn't compare to winning either the European or World quiz championships
He told RTE's Morning Ireland: "It’s still one of the most prestigious TV quizzes but no, it’s not the pinnacle of quizzes.
"There’s a whole competitive quiz circuit which is a much higher standard than a lot of what you’ll see on TV. There’s a World and European Championship and so on and there’s people there who are far better than me. I do these things, I’m not bad at them.
"My best was 33rd in the World Championship and 25th in the Europeans so I’d regard things like that as more of a pinnacle than the TV quizzes.
"But they don’t have the same audience, so in that respect Mastermind’s always big."
