Irishman catches shot of submarine lurking off coast of Malin Head

An Irishman managed to capture a few pictures of a submarine as it lurked off the coast of Malin Head this morning.

The monstrous vessel was photographed just off the coast of Donegal this morning, heading eastwards towards the UK.

The vast sub was photographed by Damien McCallig, chief engineer on the RV Celtic Explorer at around 6am this morning.

Mr McCallig posted on Twitter: “Large submarine passing this morning 20 miles northwest of Malin Head, Donegal.”

Many people believe it to be a Vanguard Submarine belonging to the British Navy though these reports are unconfirmed.

The Vanguard-class is a nuclear powered ballistic missile submarine in service with the Royal Navy.

It measures a staggering 149 metres and is worth more than €4bn.

Many took the opportunity to have some suggestions as to what the boat was doing.

One said: "The Russians are coming!"

Another added: "I thought the whole idea of a submarine was that it couldn't be seen passing? As least we know it's not an Irish vessel."

While a third said: "That’s terrifying and amazing at the same time!"

Though our favourite response had to be from the person who suggested that the Royal Navy had been called in to help with the biggest Irish crisis right now - Fungie.

There were other suggestions such as someone coming to help Arlene Foster come to terms with her new life after she stepped down from the DUP leadership yesterday.
