Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann predicts hottest day of week in as temperatures hit 23C

Parts of Ireland will bask in temperatures of up to 23C on Thursday.

Met Eireann is forecasting dry conditions and sunny spells on what will be the warmest day of the week.

Cloudy conditions in the north will spread southwards over the afternoon. Highest temperatures will range from 16C to 23C, with Munster and Leinster to experience warmest conditions.

A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Today will be another dry day with sunny spells in the south at first.

"But cloud in the northwest will spread southeastwards during the day and good sunny spells will develop again later in the afternoon and evening.

"Top temperatures will be 16 to 19C over Connacht and Ulster but reach 20 to 23C elsewhere. Winds will be light westerly but moderate over Ulster."

Thursday night should remain mostly dry, but temperatures will dip to as low as 6C in places.

A forecaster added: "Tonight will be dry with good clear spells over much of the country.

"However, it will be cloudier in the north and northwest with patchy light rain or drizzle there.

"Lowest temperatures of 6 to 10C in light variable or westerly breezes with some mist patches forming."

It will be a misty and cloudy start to Friday, with some rain showers over Ulster and Connacht.

There may be some sunny spells but overall it will be cloudier than previous days.

Parts of the south and east may are to experience highs of 22C.

A forecaster said: "Friday will be cloudy with patchy outbreaks of rain over Connacht and Ulster.

"Elsewhere will be mostly dry with sunny spells at first, but cloud will increase later in the day.

"Top temperatures of 16 to 18C over Ulster and Connacht, but 19 to 22C elsewhere.

"Winds will be mostly light to moderate westerly with local sea breezes along eastern and southern coasts."
