Irish weather forecast: Met Eireann dismisses reports Spanish Storm Miguel will hit Ireland

A Spanish storm will NOT hit Ireland, Met Eireann has confirmed.

It has been reported on Thursday morning that Storm Miguel may hit parts of Ireland and the UK this weekend.

But a Met Eireann spokesperson confirmed to the Irish Mirror that there is no extreme weather expected.

The leftovers of the storm will bring torrential rain and strong winds to Britain on Thursday night and Friday.

And although the rain will continue over the Irish sea, it will only "clip" the east coast of Ireland on Friday evening.

A Met Eireann forecaster told the Irish Mirror: "The northwest had a rainy start to the day but most of the country should be dry now.

"Showers will spread across the country as the day goes on but it should be cool and dry later on.

"On Friday, there will be low pressure (coming from Spain) and it'll affect Britain in the afternoon.

"That band of rain will move across the UK and it will clip the east coast on Friday evening. But the worst of the rain will have fallen in England and Wales.

"The weather will be quite mixed then over the weekend."

The are currently no weather warnings in place - and a Met Eireann forecaster said no more alerts are expected for the remainder of the week.
