"He was taken from us by a rare and aggressive form of meningitis, his suffering was very brief. Ethan's flame burned short and bright, he was full of energy and passion and kindness - He will be deeply missed by his dad, Hylton, his mum, Philippa, his sister, Rachel, extended family, friends and multiple communities, including sailing, scouts, church, athletics, music and school."

Howth Yacht Club wrote an emotional farewell to their junior member. They said: "It is with heavy hearts that we extend our condolences to the Banks family. Ethan Banks, a junior member, passed away this weekend after a short illness, and will be missed by so many -- at HYC and beyond. As one member commented: 'His enthusiasm and unquenchable thirst for life was somehow overshadowed by his friendliness and compassion for others."

People sent their condolences to Ethan's family with many saying he has left a void in the community.

One person said: "All who were lucky enough to meet Ethan over his short period of involvement with the sport will attest to his uniqueness and, especially for such a young man, he leaves a huge void in the lives of everyone fortunate enough to have enjoyed his company.

"We wish him calm seas and fair winds."

Another wrote: "Heaven has just welcomed a beautiful soul. We will always remember Ethan's kindness that touched so many hearts."

This is the second meningitis death to hit the news in Ireland this week after a young woman died in September from the illness.
