Irish schoolgirl, 5, dies in holiday accident in Germany

An Irish schoolgirl has tragically died in a holiday accident in Germany.

Five-year-old Emmy Eckert, from Cork, passed away following a poolside incident on Thursday, August 8.

Emmy was a student in Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig and today staff and students are shocked by the news, which most locals only learned about this morning, Cork Beo reports.

The child is believed to have been on holiday with her parents and three siblings when tragedy struck.

A text alert was sent out to all parents of kids in Emmy's class this morning when school staff found out about her passing.

A GoFundMe page has been set up by a family friend to help with the funeral costs.

Funeral details have been listed on RIP.ie as follows: "Lying in repose at Crowley’s Funeral Home, Ballincollig on Sunday (18th August) from 4.00pm to 5.30pm for visitation.

"Funeral Service at 11.00am Monday (19th August) at the Bible Baptist Activity Centre, Unit A, Innishmore Business Park, Innishmore, Ballincollig (rear of Lidl) (Eircode P31 Y954), followed by burial at St Oliver’s Cemetery."
