Irish pub in New York looking for adventure-loving J1 students to work for them this summer

An Irish bar in New York is looking for workers from Ireland to join their team for the summer.

The bar, located in Indian Lake in the state of New York, is owned by a Cork native.

Students heading on a J1 visa from Ireland this summer are invited to apply for a job in McSweeney’s Irish Pub, owned by Cork man Dave McSweeney.

Dave left the town of Millstreet in 1979 to move to Australia, before travelling to the United States to settle there.

He is now looking for students to come work with his team for the summer, with accommodation in the adjoining motel included.

The pub is located in Indian Lake, which is a couple of hours outside New York City. During the summer, it is busy with people coming for water sports, but it is mainly a town with older residents.

For those looking for an adventure-filled summer, it could be an ideal place to work.

Speaking to Patricia Messinger on C103's Cork Today Show, Dave said: “It’s so beautiful up here. There’s so much to do. We got the Great Escape [theme park]. We got Gore Mountain for skiing. We got the railroad tracks that you can peddle the cars. We got white water rafting."

There are a number of lakes in the vicinity, and, due to the fact that it’s not in the city, it’s slightly cooler in terms of temperature.

“Nature at its finest,” he said.

It could also be an experience for someone who is looking to connect with Irish roots in the US, as a nearby town called Minerva is known as “Irishtown” because of it’s connections to Irish immigration in the 1800s.

“There’s a lot of Irish history up here,” Dave said.

No previous experience is necessary, as Dave is just looking for genuine workers who won’t depend on “mom or dad’s credit card”.

Those interested in applying for this job in New York can get in touch on dave@mcsweeneysirishpub.com, or by phoning them at +1 518-648-5832. They also have a Facebook page.
