Readers have had their say on who they would like to see as the next Late Late Show host when Ryan Tubridy steps down on May 26 after 14 years.

Irish TV has had more than its fair share of world class chat show hosts over the years, so we asked you, our readers, who would they prefer as Tubridy’s replacement.

The poll named: Miriam O’Callaghan, Brendan O’Connor, Claire Byrne, Tommy Tiernan, Jennifer Zamparelli, Ray D’Arcy, Sarah McInerney, Daithi O Se and Graham Norton.

Almost 8,000 votes were cast – and it is as tight a race as we could have expected.

Irish Mirror readers have named Claire Byrne the frontrunner with Brendan O’Connor coming in second favourite.

As many as 1,473 voted for Claire, while 1,458 voted for Brendan.

Claire is currently the favourite to be the next host of the Late Late Show, with bookies suspending all bets on the Laois native this week.

Today Show host and Rose of Tralee presenter Daithi O Se came in third place with 852 – beating off competition from chat show king Graham Norton who received 813 votes.

The remaining presenters received the following votes: Tommy Tiernan, 847. Jennifer Zamparelli, 409, Ray D’Arcy, 228 and Sarah McInerney with 762 votes.

But 1,000 readers want someone else to do the job.
