Heading out for dinner is something we all enjoy, whether it be to mark a special occasion, celebrate an achievement or simply treat yourself to a relaxing evening.
The ambience created in a restaurant allows us to sit back and enjoy some delicious food presented well.
However, it seems for some Irish diners that restaurants are taking things too far when serving them their meals, opting to present dishes on anything but a plate.

Disgruntled customers took to Reddit to rant about the "pretentious" ways their dinners have been presented, saying it makes their "blood boil" when they see a slates, stone or wooden board coming their way.
Asking if anyone else feels the same way, one user wrote: "Anyone else really hate when restaurants serve food on things other than plates? Last night I had profiteroles on a roof slate. Trying to scoop up the lovely chocolate covered spheres with a spoon was like running fingers down a chalk board."
The user was met with a flurry of replies from aggravated diners who couldn't agree more.
They said: "I've sent food back before and asked for it on a plate cause I absolutely can't stand it, also, serving things on wooden boards or anything other than a plate is unhygienic.
"Anyone else want to join in on the hate?"
A second said: "I hate food being served on a slate, the sound of food being cut on a slate goes right through me."
While a third wrote: "Yeah, I prefer if they just give me a plate and put everything on that one plate. I hate getting a meal served on more than one dish. Chicken curry and rice for example but the rice is in a different bowl is a pain in the ass for me lol."
Others recalled some of the most outlandish dishwares they had ever received in a restaurant.
They said: "I was once served a single plum, floating in perfume. It was served in a man's hat."
A second said: "The most pretentious thing I've ever experienced was in Manchester. I was served a trowel full of hummus. A garden trowel. A clean one but still... and the cut up veggies were standing upright in the hummus…"

To which one user replied: "I hate that, but I can kinda understand it, the hummus was the clay growing the root veggies and thr trowel was used to dig them up, pretentious absolutely."
"Went to a place last night that served whipped butter on a frozen stone. Looked cool, butter was amazing but after 10 minutes the butter just sloped off the side onto the table cloth," commented a third.
While a fourth wrote: "Hate this. Years ago I was in a party of about 12 and several of us were served fish and chips in these weird boxes; with pretty high sides - I didn't even hesitate; they barely put it down when I said 'could you bring me a plate please' and it rippled down the table everyone asking for plates. And then we saw other tables swapping them out for plates. Never been back but i like to think they might have abandoned those things because of that day probably wishful thinking."
However, not everyone agreed with some admitting that they find the novel presentations classy.
They said: "I got a burger served on a chopping board and chips in a tiny deep frying container. It was very classy to be honest."
A second said: "Depends on the food - I'm a big fan of bbq served on a board for some reason".
