Emmet McNamara made history over the weekend by winning the Derby on board Serpentine in what was his first ride in the race.
The Limerick rider took off on the 25/1 shot at the front of the field from the start of the race and wasn't for catching as he went on to win by five and a half lengths.
It was a huge moment for the 30-year-old as he gave trainer Aidan O'Brien a record eighth win in the race and his dad was immensely proud.
Speaking to RTE, Eric McNamara said: "[I'm] very, very proud of him. It was fabulous to see him riding in that race.
"I suppose I'm a bit biased but I think he got his fractions right. I think he got the race right in his head and it was a wonderful, wonderful race to win.
"As a family, his mam, brothers and sisters were all very, very proud of him."
He added: "I was with my wife and the two girls were here too. We screamed so loud that we frightened the life out of poor little Donagh, who is just six months, but it was a wonderful experience and it was a very emotional experience."
Emmet hailed the genius of O'Brien after the success, saying: “I never thought I’d be sitting here, but Aidan O’Brien filled me with confidence before I went out.
“He told me if we got things right, he is one horse that could well win the Derby. And I believed him, when that man tells you something, you listen.
“I thought I had an easy lead. I didn’t look around, but I couldn’t hear a thing and I knew I wasn’t going a million miles an hour.
“He stayed very well. It was very surreal, I thought I was just going to wake up and it was just a piece of work or something.”
