Ireland weather tomorrow: Met Eireann's awful 24-hour forecast as snow, sleet and thunder expected

Ireland is in for some atrocious weather in the coming hours, with a warning that we're likely to see snow, sleet and even thunder this evening and Thursday.

Met Eireann is predicting an awful 24 hours for Ireland – with thundery showers and icy conditions as the thermometer dial dips below zero.

A spokesperson for the national forecaster said tonight will herald widespread showers, some of which will be "heavy and thundery with hail, and turning to sleet or snow on high ground."

Temperatures could reach as low as minus 1 degrees, with conditions set to be coldest over Ulster.

And there's not much respite due tomorrow, with a "very cold day" ahead, according to Met Eireann.

There will be widespread heavy showers in the morning, as well as a risk of hail and thunderstorms over the course of the day.

Some of these showers will take the form of sleet or snow, particularly on high ground.

And temperatures could fall as low as two degrees in the daytime, before things get even colder overnight as frost develops in Ulster.

Met Eireann's latest forecast comes amid a weather advisory for the country that warns of "much colder" conditions for the remainder of this week.

We're set for "sharp and severe frosts", according to a spokesperson, as well as "icy stretches" and wintery showers.

The advisory notice, issued by Met Eireann on Tuesday morning, has been in place for the whole country since 4pm today, and lasts until midnight on Friday.

And there's also a small craft warning in place today and tomorrow, with westerly winds set to reach force six or higher on all Irish coasts this evening.

For the rest of the week, Met Eireann is predicting that the weather will "remain cold", before drier and brighter spells finally develop in time for the weekend.
