A Met Eireann forecaster said: "Rather cloudy this morning with a little patchy drizzle affecting northern coasts to start the day. There'll be fog in patches around the coast of the south and west.

"Cloud will thin out with sunshine developing, the best in the south and spreading northwards steadily.

These are the nine mistakes you're making with sunscreen

"Highest temperatures ranging between 20 and 24 degrees widely, between 17 and 20 degrees in the cloudier north and at the coasts and as high as 27 degrees possible in isolated spots where the longest spells of sunshine develop.

"Winds will be light and variable in direction.

"Tonight will be dry with the clear skies continuing to extend in to the cloudier north. Lowest temperatures will range between 7 and 9 degrees in the north and between 11 and 13 degrees elsewhere and winds remain light and variable."

Thursday will be extremely hot and will no doubt be the hottest day of the year so far - especially over in Connacht.

The forecaster added: "Tomorrow, Thursday will be a warm day and locally it will feel hot. It will be dry and sunny widely and winds will be light to moderate from a southeast direction, locally fresh.

"Temperatures will be 25 degrees in the afternoon widely across the country, typically reaching 20 degrees at the coasts and as high as 29 degrees is possible in the west."

And at the moment Friday will be similarly beautiful but not quite as warm as Thursday.

Weather chiefs added: "It will be dry and sunny on Friday too with temperatures once again as high as 25 degrees through Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, and more typically around 20 degrees in Munster and south Leinster due to a moderate southerly wind.

"There is the chance of showers along western coastal areas on Friday evening in to Friday night."
