Ireland weather today: Indian summer as temperatures to soar to 23C this week

Ireland is set to enjoy an Indian summer this week as temperatures soar to 23C on Tuesday.

Although the west will see some showers, Met Eireann forecasters are predicting very dry and mild conditions over the coming days.

Yesterday saw sun-worshippers flocking outdoors to soak up the last of the summer rays.

Dublin enjoyed the best of the sunshine with highs of 22C at the Forty Foot and 21C in Phoenix Park while the mercury soared to 21.3C at Shannon Airport.

And it's set to get even warmer this week.

But all good things must come to an end and temperatures will dip heading into next weekend.

A spokesman for the national forecaster said: "Largely dry over the eastern half of the country today, but scattered showers or longer spells of rain will affect western parts, possibly heavy at times later.

"Mostly cloudy overall, but spells of hazy sunshine will occur at times too. Warm and humid, with maximum temperatures of 18C to 22C, in mostly light to moderate southeast breezes.

"Tomorrow will be warm, humid and mostly cloudy with scattered showers.

"The showers will be mainly over the western half of the country and the best of any sunny intervals will be in the east.

"Highest temperatures of 19C to 23C, warmest in Leinster with light variable breezes.

"Wednesday will continue mild and mostly cloudy with showery rain in places. There'll be a few bright intervals also.

"Highest temperatures ranging from 16 degrees in the northeast to 21C or 22C in the midlands and west with mostly light easterly breezes."

It'll be cooler in east Ulster and along the Irish Sea coasts.
