Ireland weather: Met Eireann's five-day forecast reveals when weather will turn after solid weekend of sunshine

Met Eireann have published their latest weather forecast for the week, with Ireland set to get a bit brighter over the next few days before a wicked twist.

The weekend has started off fairly dull, with a few areas hit with some rough enough rain showers.

But those will disappear on Sunday - but not for too long, as a wicked end to the week

Here's the latest from the boffins at the national forecaster.

Saturday night

"Cloudy and misty tonight with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, as well as some hill and coastal fog. A mild night with lowest temperatures of 11 to 14 degrees, coolest in Ulster. Winds will be mostly light to moderate and varying from a northeasterly direction in the north to southerly in the south."

Sunday

"A cloudy and misty start with scattered outbreaks of mostly light rain and drizzle. It will gradually improve with a clearance to mainly dry and bright weather and some sunshine extending from the northwest to most parts through the morning and afternoon. The clearance will reach the southeast in the early evening. Highest temperatures of 16 to 20 degrees with moderate northerly winds becoming northwest in the afternoon, with winds fresh to strong in coastal parts of the west and southwest."

Sunday night

"Mainly dry on Sunday night with clear spells, apart from a few isolated light showers in northwestern coastal areas. Lowest temperatures of 10 to 13 degrees in mostly moderate northwest winds, a little fresher in coastal parts of the west and northwest."

Monday

"M.ainly dry and bright to begin with spells of sunshine, and just a few isolated light showers in coastal parts of the northwest. Cloud will increase by the afternoon, however, with patchy rain and drizzle pushing into Ulster and north Connacht, but it will brighten up again in the south and southeast towards evening. A little cooler than Sunday, with highest temperatures ranging from 15 degrees in the northwest, up to 18 degrees in the southeast. Winds will be mostly moderate northwesterly."

However, things will take a twist as we progress throughout the week - with Thursday set to bring showers and then an absolute washout on Friday.
