Ireland weather: Met Eireann forecast as hot spell looking 'more and more likely'

Ireland could see a return to sunny skies and high temperatures early next week, according to long range forecasts.

High pressure is currently being predicted from the weekend onwards, meaning there's a chance of much warmer weather heading into next week.

Alan O'Reilly of Carlow Weather said the prospect of a hot spell is looking "more and more likely".

Met Eireann too are anticipating a more settled spell of weather later this week.

The forecaster said: "Unsettled at first, with some rain and drizzle, but current indications suggest that a more settled spell of weather is likely to develop towards the end of the week.

"Current indications suggest that it will be dry and settled, with a mix of cloud and sunny spells and light winds. Gradually becoming a little warmer also for the early days of next week."

But before that there is still plenty more wet and windy days to come - although temperatures will be a bit higher.

Tuesday and Wednesday will both see plenty of heavy showers in places but they should subside by Thursday.

The national forecaster expects near 20C conditions Thursday and plenty of sun.

The high pressure is expected to kick in then with hopes of much warmer weather for the weekend and into next week.
