New Zealand battled to a scrappy 26-13 win over Ireland in Chicago to earn retribution for their historic defeat in the city nine years ago.
It was 2016 when the pair last met at Soldier Field on an emotionally-charged day of history for Ireland, finally beating the All Blacks for the first time after 111 years of trying.
They have downed New Zealand on four more occasions since but couldn’t add another victory at Soldier Field, despite Tadhg Furlong’s first international try for five years helping them into a 10-0 lead.
That came despite Tadhg Beirne receiving a harsh 20-minute red card for a high tackle on Beauden Barrett but the All Blacks hit back as Ardie Savea finished off a neat move, although it was in the final 20 minutes where Scott Robertson’s side really hit their straps, with Tamaiti Williams, Wallace Sititi and Cam Roigard all going over to leave Andy Farrell – who has faced a few questions over the age profile of his squad – reflecting on a frustrating start to his autumn campaign.

New Zealand gain Chicago revenge on Ireland after controversial Tadhg Beirne red card
23:55 , Luke BakerTadhg Beirne was shown a contentious early red card as Ireland’s quest to create more special memories in Chicago ended in an emphatic 26-13 loss to New Zealand.
Almost nine years to the day since Ireland’s milestone first victory in the fixture, the All Blacks gained revenge at Soldier Field thanks to tries from Ardie Savea, Tamaiti Williams, Wallace Sititi and Cam Roigard.
Ireland initially overcame the controversial third-minute dismissal of Beirne for a high tackle on Beauden Barrett, who landed three conversions, to lead through a Tadhg Furlong score and eight points from Jack Crowley.

New Zealand win the Gallagher Cup!
23:38 , Luke BakerOh, if you like made-up trophies in sport then you’ll like this - New Zealand, of course, won the Gallagher Cup due to their victory today.
What is the Gallagher Cup, I hear you ask?... Yup...
Anyway, they’ll have to move aside some of their Webb Ellis cups to make room for this one in the trophy cabinet.

What's next for New Zealand?
23:15 , Luke BakerMeanwhile, New Zealand can build on this opening win as they too head to Europe after their Stateside adventure.
Scotland, fresh off an 85-0 shellacking of the USA today, are the next challenge for the All Blacks before a mouth-watering clash with England and then a trip to Cardiff to face Wales to finish. Can they go four from four?

What's next for Ireland?
23:00 , Luke BakerA frustrating start for Andy Farrell’s men but they now head back to Ireland to lick their wounds.
A clash with Japan in Dublin next weekend should be a get-right game before two more big ones against Australia, then South Africa, to round out their November schedule.
Those final two matches will be fascinating.

Dan Sheehan: 'We never really got going'
22:45 , Luke BakerBy contrast, Ireland were frustrated after slipping to defeat. Skipper for the day Dan Sheehan couldn’t hide his disappointment at the result.
“It is a bitter pill to swallow,” said Sheehan. “To be honest I never thought we really got going.
“We were operating at about 80 per cent going into half-time but there was a lot of inaccuracy and ill-discipline in the second half. Our training the last two weeks has been physical and good.
“Hopefully we can get better for Japan next week. We have three big games back at the Aviva now. We need to focus on our set-piece and breakdown, where we massively struggled today.”
Fabian Holland: 'We wanted to make a statement'
22:33 , Luke BakerAll Blacks lock Fabian Holland impressed today and earned man-of-the-match honours. Here’s what he had to say about the win.
“It was a massive game for us,” said Holland. “Thank you to everyone for coming out, it means the world to us.
“Credit to Ireland, they are a great side. We’re stoked to get the win. We wanted to make a statement at the start of this tour and hopefully we did that.
“We had to adjust with Scott and Jordie Barrett going off in the first half and the boys did so beautifully. We wanted to keep playing All Black rugby in the second half and back each other up.”

Ireland 13-26 New Zealand
22:16 , Luke BakerThe All Blacks had too much for Ireland in the end and it’s a frustrating start to the autumn for Andy Farrell’s men

FULL-TIME! Ireland 13-26 New Zealand
22:05 , Luke BakerAnd it’s all over in Chicago. Retribution for that day in 2016 as New Zealand put up a strong second-half performance to down Ireland.
Not the return that Andy Farrell wanted from Lions duty as they saw a 10-0 lead slip away and the All Blacks get the job done

Ireland 13-26 New Zealand, 78 mins
22:03 , Luke BakerRoigard comes off immediately after that try as Cortez Ratima is on as the final All Black sub. They can jsut see this game out now.
TRY! Ireland 13-26 New Zealand (Cam Roigard, 77 mins)
22:01 , Luke BakerAnd that's game, set and match. New Zealand will be leaving Chicago as victors.
The scrum is solid, Cam Roigard drifts let and throws a dummy pass before cutting back inside. Van der Flier falls of him, another chop step gets him past Doris and the All Black scrum half is over. A 10th international try for Roigard and perhaps slightly soft.

Ireland 13-21 New Zealand, 76 mins
21:58 , Luke BakerIreland get a reprieve as New Zealand are pinged at the lineout, so the Irish have a scrum in their own 22. Not ideal when they need to go the length of the field but at least it’s their put-in...
Almost disaster as Ireland spread the ball to the left but the pass from Aki is loose, too far in front of Osborne, it bounces around and Lowe knocks on trying to collect. Now an All Black scrum five metres out...
Ireland 13-21 New Zealand, 73 mins
21:55 , Luke BakerSititi with another big carry, making good metres after contact.
The Irish discipline is waning here. Pinged again for offside and New Zealand kick to the corner. The game is slipping away from Andy Farrell and co.
WATCH: Sititi adds to New Zealand lead
21:54 , Luke BakerHere’s that Wallace Sititi try - lovely play from the All Blacks

Ireland 13-21 New Zealand, 70 mins
21:52 , Luke BakerMore changes for Ireland as Craig Casey and Sam Prendergast form an all-new half-back pair, while Leinster prop Paddy McCarthy comes on for his debut.
Ireland in an attacking area, decent carry by O’Brien but a knock-on has been spotted and New Zealand clear.
TRY! Ireland 13-21 New Zealand (Wallace Sititi, 68 mins)
21:50 , Luke BakerStunning try! Beauden Barrett delays the pass and spots a gap to slip through before then spinning it to McKenzie.
He surges into the 22 and passes back inside to Wallace Sititi running a great support line, who is able to run it in under the posts. The All Blacks have started to turn it on here.
Ireland 13-14 New Zealand, 67 mins
21:48 , Luke BakerNicely done from the scrum by the All Blacks and Roigard spins a 25-metre pass flat to Clarke. Superb! Clarke kicks ahead into the 22 but Lowe covers well and kicks clear towards halfway.
New Zealand come again, McKenzie with a gain-line-breaking carry.
Ireland 13-14 New Zealand, 65 mins
21:46 , Luke BakerIreland straight back on the attack. Crowley with a gorgeous chip over the top, O’Brien chases but Roigard puts enough pressure on and O’Brien just knocks the ball on as he tries to pluck it out of the air.
Still an All Black scrum five metres from their own line though

TRY! Ireland 13-14 New Zealand (Tamaiti Williams, 63 mins)
21:44 , Luke BakerSublimely done by the All Blacks! Taylor taps and goes from the free-kick, then slips a pass to Sititi on the crash ball.
He’s inches short of the line but big Tamaiti Williams picks up and you can’t stop him from there. He burrows across the whitewash for the try!
Huge moments. Conversion duly added and the All Blacks now lead.
Ireland 13-7 New Zealand, 61 mins
21:42 , Luke BakerBeauden Barrett on the wraparound and his gets shellacked by Ringrose. TMO check to see if there’s head contact but there’s no foul play - just a shoulder to the shoulder area, and ball, by Ringrose. Great hit!
New Zealand have a free-kick coming anyway, five metres out and looks like they’ll tap and go.
Ireland 13-7 New Zealand, 60 mins
21:40 , Luke BakerIreland win the scrum penalty and kick up to just outside the 22. This is a good platform.
Baird claims the lineout and Doris carries well but the ball is soon knocked on by Osborne... Jordan kicks into Irish territory, Tupaea chases and gets over the ball to win he penalty.
Suddenly, the All Blacks have a lineout in the Irish 22!
Ireland 13-7 New Zealand, 58 mins
21:37 , Luke BakerSome Irish changes including Bundee Aki, who has been nursing a hip injury recently, on for Stuart McCloskey.
The Irish scrum is creaking a bit as they go backwards but then New Zealand’s dodgy lineout falters once more and Baird nicks the ball back.
A few phases later, Jordan drops a pass fired at him. If you enjoy rugby fundamentals, this isn’t the clash for you.
Ireland 13-7 New Zealand, 54 mins
21:33 , Luke BakerCarter, who has been a bit quiet today, with a couple of carries in Irish territory. A bit of a proxy war in the form of a kicking battle follows though.
Lowe’s famed left boot pins the All Blacks deep and Beauden Barrett with an average kick clear means Ireland win that particularly territory fight
PENALTY! Ireland 13-7 New Zealand (Jack Crowley, 51 mins)
21:30 , Luke BakerNo mistake from Crowley. A simple kick and extends the lead to six points
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 50 mins
21:30 , Luke BakerClassy kick from Beauden Barrett. A low fizzer gains his team 40 metres or so. For once, the Irish lineout is solid though.
And they earn possession back on the 10-metre line with a good kick chase. All Blacks pinged for not rolling away, then Codie Taylor backchats for an extra 10 metres. That’s up to the 22 and you’d fancy Crowley this time as the referee points to the posts.
MISSED PENALTY! Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 48 mins
21:27 , Luke BakerIt’s 46 metres for Jack Crowley, to the right of the posts. He hooks it towards the sticks but too much slice and it drifts wide left. Hmmmm.
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 47 mins
21:26 , Luke BakerNew Zealand look to have room to roam on the left but inaccuracy from Jordan sees the ball hit the deck. Danger averted for the men in green.
Beauden Barrett caught offside and Ireland will have a pop at the posts from halfway
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 46 mins
21:24 , Luke BakerNot a great kick clear by Roigard and Ireland have a lineout on the 22. A rare clean lineout follows!
But Savea tackles Ringrose, gets up to his feet and pilfers the ball. Superb back-row play!
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 43 mins
21:22 , Luke BakerAnother early knock-on for New Zealand - the fundamentals from both side have been poor, in truth.
After a standard scrum reset, Ireland keep a solid base and go left, where Lowe glides up to the 22.
Porter and then Baird add some muscle and make more ground before McCloskey dummies and takes contact. Crowley chips through but Jordan collects and thumps clear.
KICK-OFF! Ireland 10-7 New Zealand
21:20 , Luke BakerBack underway at Soldier Field. Good news for Ireland. James Ryan back on after his HIA

HALF-TIME! Ireland 10-7 New Zealand
21:05 , Luke BakerAn odd first half. A 40-minute period that took 55 minutes to play due to all the stopping and starting. And the lineouts have been dismal from both teams.
Tadhg Beirne’s early 20-minute red card - that appeared harsh as he had little time to react - looked ominous for Ireland but they dealt with it well and built a 10-0 lead when Tadhg Furlong burrowed over.
New Zealand hit back with a neat Ardie Savea try and so it’s 10-7 at the break. All to play for in the second 40.

Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 40 mins
21:03 , Luke BakerFinal attacking chance for Ireland before the break. They build from a lineout on the NZ 10-metre line. Scratch that - of course it’s butchered and nicked by the All Blacks.
They have a look at building from deep but opt against it and that will be half-time.
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 38 mins
21:01 , Luke BakerBeauden Barrett with a relatively routine catch running across the 22 to get Osborne’s kick although he almost forgets to call the mark and runs into touch. The crowd don’t like it but referee Brousset gives him the benefit of the doubt and he can kick clear.
Another lost lineout from Ireland. Sheehan errs once more! The lineouts have been truly horrific from both teams.
When Ireland get the ball back, Conan makes good ground with a carry up the middle but McCloskey’s offload out the back of the hand then just goes into touch.
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 36 mins
20:58 , Luke BakerThis has been such a stop-start clash. Another stoppage and lengthy debate that ends with James Ryan heading off for a HIA and Caelan Doris making his return from the bench. Huge cheers for the Ireland captain - he’s been out since getting injured in May.
Mistakes are creeping in on both sides and the latest is an Irish kick bouncing too long and going dead. Scrum back near halfway.
And Ireland get the free-kick after early engagement from Newell.

Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 33 mins
20:53 , Luke BakerMore injury woe for the All Blacks as Simon Parker is off for a HIA, with Wallace Sititi on in his back-row stead.
The sides trade mammoth kicks and Roigard eventually pings a left-footed knock to touch just outside the Ireland 22.
By the way, it was Iain Henderson who came on in place of Tadhg Beirne when Beirne’s 20-minute red card was up.
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 30 mins
20:50 , Luke BakerAnother All Blacks lineout deemed not straight. These two hookers are having a stinker.
Ireland build an attack and Gibson-Park flicks a high, looped pass out to Baird on the right wing to cheers from the crowd. He cuts back infield towards his support and the men in green reload.
Carries from Ryan and Baird get Ireland up to the 22 before Crowley pokes a clever kick through but Beauden Barrett does well to let it just roll into the in-goal area to touch it down with opponents in pursuit
Ireland 10-7 New Zealand, 26 mins
20:48 , Luke BakerThe Irish lineout is creaking so far today as Sheehan is pinged for not throwing straight.
But again, the All Blacks are also struggling in that department. They have a great attacking platform but the lineout is stolen, O’Brien keeps his cool to collect the ball, apss to Gibson-Park in his own in-goal area and it’s a wonderful kick clear from the scrum half.
WATCH: Ireland and New Zealand trade tries

TRY! Ireland 10-7 New Zealand (Ardie Savea, 20 mins)
20:42 , Luke BakerAnd they do hit back! What a try by the All Blacks! Fainga’anuku immediately involved as he makes the initial break, sliding through a gap and offloads to Jordan.
He scythes past two more men before being brought down in the 22. Could he have offloaded to Clarke? It doesn’t matter. New Zeland fling the ball to the right, through the hands and Ardie Savea is on the end of it to go over in the corner. Class.
And what a conversion from Beauden Barrett from the touchline! This game has burst into life!
Ireland 10-0 New Zealand, 19 mins
20:39 , Luke BakerJordie Barrett hasn’t recovered, so Leicester Fainga’anuku is on to replace him. The All Blacks looking to hit back after that try.
TRY! Ireland 10-0 New Zealand (Tadhg Furlong, 17 mins)
20:38 , Luke BakerBeirne just about takes the lineout. Carries from McCloskey, then Lowe before Conan barrels to within a couple of metres.
Quick ball to the right, McCloskey with a dart and then it’s Tadhg Furlong! Pass whipped inside to him by Gibson-Park, the prop gets low and drives his legs to burrow over the line for his first Test try in five years!
Superb play by Ireland and they have a try. Conversion added by Crowley and it’s 10-0

Ireland 3-0 New Zealand, 16 mins
20:35 , Luke BakerFirst proper chance with ball in hand for Ireland and Conan with a barrelling carry, knocking defenders backwards! Ireland have penalty advantage and Codie Taylor stops quick ball by stepping across and Gibson-Park takes umbrage with that, leading to some pushing and shoving.
And Andy Farrell’s men turn down the three, they kick to the corner...
Ireland 3-0 New Zealand, 15 mins
20:34 , Luke BakerNew Zealand swarm right and Leroy Carter, the winger with three tries in three Tests for the All Blacks, breaks down the flank. But good Irish cover, led by Ringrose as Carter is bundled into touch.
Ryan then snaffles a loose ball that is won in the air by Ireland
Ireland 3-0 New Zealand, 13 mins
20:32 , Luke BakerPowerful carry by McCloskey as he knocks a defender back - that’s what he offers!
Good up and under by Gibson-Park as Tommy O’Brien can challenge Beauden Barrett in the air and force a knock-on.
This has been a very stop-start game and we’ve got another lengthy stoppage as Jordie Barrett is hit hard by James Ryan and it looks like his foot gets caught in the turf, twisting his knee. After a while, he gets strapped up and will try to continue.

RED CARD! Ireland 3-0 New Zealand (Tadhg Beirne)
20:28 , Luke BakerWOW! This is huge. It’s determined that Tadhg Beirne’s tackle was dangerous enough to be upgraded to a red card. High level of danger and no mitigation.
Remember, it’s a 20-minute red card these days, so Ireland will be back up to 15 men midway through the first half but they also lose one of their best players in Beirne.
PENALTY! Ireland 3-0 New Zealand (Jack Crowley, 7 mins)
20:26 , Luke BakerAnd it’s first blood Ireland! It’s deemed that Clarke’s break was due to an All Black obstruction so Ireland can have a shy at the posts.
A nerve-settler for Jack Crowley, he makes no mistake from the New Zealand 10-metre line and the men in green lead 3-0.
Ireland 0-0 New Zealand, 5 mins
20:24 , Luke BakerThe break in play hasn't helped the players it seems. The All Blacks immediately knock on in the 22 and Ireland stay firm at the scrum before Gibson-Park launches a massive kick clear.
Then Caleb Clarke shows his class! The All Blacks winger with a good weaving run makes 30 metres and bring him up to halfway but the pass to Roigard doesn't go to hand. A great turn of pace but leads to nothing.
SIN BIN! Ireland 0-0 New Zealand (Tadhg Beirne, 3 mins)
20:20 , Luke BakerThis doesn’t look great for Beirne. He’s upright, there’s no wrap in the tackle but he did have almost no time to react as Barrett received the ball as he met Beirne.
The replays in the stadium aren’t working, so TMO Ian Tempest talks referee Pierre Brousset through the situation. He then belatedly goes to the monitor on the halfway line. This is taking ages...
Right, we have a decision. Brousset talks to the captains, and it’s a yellow card for Tadhg Beirne. Ten minutes in the sin-bin and the bunker will see if it needs upgrading.
That took more than five minutes in total - not great optics when trying to sell the sport to the USA...
Ireland 0-0 New Zealand, 3 mins
20:16 , Luke BakerThe New Zealand lineout is barely any better than Ireland’s, very scrappy but the ball does bounce back the All Blacks way. They lose some ground and try to reload.
Beauden Barrett then on a crash ball, I think he was supposed to be a dummy runner but Roigard pops the ball to him anyway and he clatters into Beirne. The Irish lock is very upright and that looks like a no-arms tackle... To the TMO we go
Ireland 0-0 New Zealand, 2 mins
20:14 , Luke BakerBeauden Barrett absolutely demolishes a kick miles down the field from his own 22. And Ireland’s lineout creaks immediately.
Sheehan with a messy throw that bounces off Furlong’s hands (surely targeting him wasn’t the plan) and that’s first blood New Zealand. Sheehan then pinged for not rolling away, so the All Blacks are into the Ireland 22...
KICK-OFF! Ireland 0-0 New Zealand

Jack Crowley gets fly half nod
19:45 , Harry Latham-CoyleThe Jack Crowley/Sam Prendergast debate looks set to continue for a while yet, with the Munsterman installed at No 10 today after starting the season in impressive URC form. A 31-18 win at Croke Park over the Dublin club felt like a real statement from some of the Munster squad a fortnight ago, coming only days after Andy Farrell named a Leinster-heavy selection ahead of the autumn - but that level of competition is surely only a good thing. Neither Crowley nor Prendergast is the finished article but the 25-year-old has responded well to the challenge provided by his younger rival, and he gets a huge opportunity to steer the ship in Chicago today.

A familiar foe
19:35 , Harry Latham-CoyleIt’ll be fun to watch Jordie Barrett up against some close chums tonight, the New Zealand centre relatively fresh from his stint at Leinster last season. He’ll have a little bit of inside knowledge on the healthy contingent from the club in the Irish squad, and they him, of course.
Rieko Ioane doesn’t make the All Blacks squad today with the centre set to move to Dublin at the end of this autumn - Ioane remains a valuable figure to Scott Robertson with his ability to cover the wing but there is a sense that Quinn Tupaea, Billy Proctor and Leicester Fainga’anuku are just squeezing ahead in the pecking order.

Caelan Doris in ‘great nick’ to return from the bench for Ireland – Andy Farrell
19:25 , Harry Latham-CoyleIreland head coach Andy Farrell says captain Caelan Doris is in “great nick” following a six-month injury absence and will be disappointed not to start today’s clash with New Zealand in Chicago.
Leinster back-rower Doris is poised to return to action from the bench at Soldier Field, having not played since undergoing surgery on a shoulder issue suffered on 3 May.
With the 27-year-old among the replacements, Jack Conan and Ryan Baird start at number eight and blindside flanker respectively, while hooker Dan Sheehan will skipper the side.

Dan Sheehan excited to continue Ireland rivalry with New Zealand in Chicago
17:55 , Harry Latham-CoyleStand-in captain Dan Sheehan says there is “massive” excitement among Ireland’s players as they bid to create more special memories against New Zealand in Chicago.

However, New Zealand defeated Ireland in the quarter-finals of the 2019 and 2023 Rugby World Cups, in addition to winning 23-13 in Dublin last November.
