Republic of Ireland Under-21 captain Jayson Molumby has been rewarded for his fine form with a new three year deal at Brighton.
The 20-year-old midfielder looks to have paved a way towards Premier League football next season in signing the new deal, having cut his teeth as a regular on loan at Millwall in this year's Championship.
The new deal makes Molumby a Seagulls player until summer 2023, with their technical director Dan Ashworth predicting that the Dubliner will make a 'big impact' when he returns from the loan at the end of the season.
“The experiences Jayson has had in the tough environment of the Championship this season have really helped his overall game and we’re delighted that he is committing himself to the club so he can continue his development when he comes back to us at the end of the season,” Ashworth said.
“We have watched him regularly this season and I know how pleased everyone at Millwall has been with his performances and his attitude.
“The new contract is a reward for his professionalism and hard work and I’m sure he will be looking to make a big impact when he comes back to the club.”
Molumby has become a fan favourite at The Den this season, making 31 appearances in all competitions.
A star in Stephen Kenny's Ireland Under-21 side, a call-up to the Ireland squad for this month's Euro 2020 qualifier against Slovakia seems just beyond the youngster.
But he's expected to get the call when Kenny succeeds current boss Mick McCarthy in the hot seat later this year.
