Ireland's jobs with surprisingly high salaries - from €54k lorry driving to €106k to manage supermarket

Since the return of pre-Covid life in Ireland, there are thousands of workers who have changed direction, returned to education, and started off on an entirely new career path.

As a result of numerous closures, those working in the retail, the restaurant and bar industry, taxi drivers, and those in other affected sectors opted to change careers to secure a wage amid the pandemic.

Some jobs that you may not consider as well earning opportunities in Ireland will come to surprise you - from child-minding to truck driving and supermarket management.

Here are some of the most surprisingly well-paid jobs in Ireland:

Lorry driver €51,000

The average heavy truck driver's gross salary in Ireland is €44,544 or an equivalent hourly rate of €21 - in addition, they earn an average bonus of €1,105.

Salary estimates based on survey data collected directly from employers and anonymous employees in Ireland by Salaryexpert.com show that an entry-level heavy truck driver (1-3 years of experience) earns an average salary of €32,819.

On the other end, a senior-level heavy truck driver (8+ years of experience) earns an average salary of €54,352.

Plumber €135,000

The average plumber's gross salary in Ireland is €48,146 or an equivalent hourly rate of €25- in addition, they earn an average bonus of €1,740.

Salary estimates are based on salary survey data collected directly from employers and anonymous employees in Ireland.

According to IrishJobs.ie, “If you’re starting on this job, you can expect a yearly wage starting on €40,100, and if have +5 years of experience you can earn up to €135,000 per annum.”

Lidl Area Manager €100,000

In Ireland, Lidl offers Area Managers a starting salary of €65,000 rising up to €100,000 within four years.

You have or expect to attain a minimum of a 2.1 degree in any discipline or a minimum of three years of management experience.

Aldi Manager up to €106,000

Each Aldi Store Manager earns between €77,900 and €88,250, with 5 weeks’ paid holidays.

Meanwhile, the starting salary for career changer area managers is €77,900, rising to €106,500 over eight years.

In addition to this highly competitive salary, area managers are also entitled to an attractive benefits package.

Childminder €40,000

According to suresitter.com, the average childminder in Ireland is paid a daily rate of around €50 per child.

So if you were watching three kids from Monday to Friday after school, you would be earning up to €40,000 per year.
