Ireland have to go back to 'playing as a team' - John Ryan

John Ryan admits Ireland have to return to "playing as a team" in a bid to get their World Cup dream back on track.

The Munster prop was one of the lucky ones not to be involved in the record defeat to England but gave an insight into how the worrying situation has been addressed.

"We're all hugely disappointed," he stressed. "We're not a team that gets absolutely hammered by any team in the world.

"We can put it up to anyone, so we're hugely disappointed. It's about getting back out there and making sure we show the fans and everyone else that's not us.

"That's certainly not us. These kind of losses come once in a blue moon. That's the biggest loss that we've had and it's not something that we're going to continue.

"I know that's a cliché but we're going to work as a team rather than individuals.

"There's a lot of heart in the game, when you're being beaten like that it hurts. We need to go back to playing as a team".

But Ryan insists there's no fingers being pointed, voices raised or panic buttons hit in the Ireland dressing-room after the Twickenham horror show.

"At this level, there's no shouting," explained Ryan, who should get game time against Wales on Saturday.

"Everyone knows the mistakes they made. Everyone's looking at self-improving, rectifying their own mistakes and then it's reiterated so we learn as a group.

"There's nothing heated as a group, it's all calculated and about trying to find those little areas we can get better.

"Obviously, we can get miles better but it's a case of applying ourselves, getting back out this week and doing the basics well".
