Ireland fans identify standout performer in first half of Finland clash

Ireland fans raved about midfield young gun Jayson Molumby on social media during the first half of the clash with Finland in Helsinki.

The 21-year-old - winning his third senior Ireland cap tonight - earned plaudits for his performance in the 0-0 draw with Wales last Sunday at the Aviva Stadium.

And supporters were impressed by what they saw from the Brighton midfielder again during the first 45 minutes of this evening's game - as Ireland went in at half-time with the game scoreless.

Pundit Alan Cawley commented: "Breaking down off Hendrick all evening. Young guns Dara O’Shea Jayson Molumby Aaron Connolly all doing well."

Another Twitter user said: "Molumby is so good, always looking to receive the ball and always wants to play forward, great to watch. #FINIRL #coybig"

While another observed: "Big difference between the lads who’ve worked with Kenny before and the ones working with him for the first time. For instance, Molumby and O’Shea much quicker in moving the ball than Hourihane & Duffy. Hendrick out on his feet already."

Molumby made a big impression on loan at Millwall last season but has yet to break into Graham Potter's Brighton line-up in the Premier League.
