
Iraqi President Barham Salih has launched on Wednesday a comprehensive national dialogue in Iraq, starting with discussing the political crisis in the country. The dialogue witnessed mending ties with the Kurdistan Democratic Party, led by Masoud Barzani.
Lukman Faily, the presidential spokesperson, said that the meeting is being held upon the president’s call to discuss a national vision that meets and bolsters the revival of Iraq.
Faily added that besides the president, prime ministers, deputies, senior judges, former presidents, deputies and ministers, heads of political blocs, and representatives of Iraqi components will attend the meeting.
The national talks, which aim to push Iraq towards the better, will tackle different issues, including the fight against terrorism and corruption as well as the US presence in the country.
MP Hassan Touran told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that clamping down on corruption is now a must that should be translated into concrete steps.
Further, MP Ala Talabani told the newspaper that such meetings come at a delicate time when there are several problems and crises that matter to everyone, and therefore all should take part in finding solutions.
For his part, Former MP Haidar al-Malla told Asharq Al-Awsat that the consultative meeting is significant in such circumstances, especially that there are major disputes among political forces. Resolving these disputes cant happen but through dialogue, he added.
