Iran Targets Israeli Airbase In Retaliation For Damascus Strike

Iranian consulate in Damascus flattened in suspected Israeli air strike

An Iranian army official revealed on Sunday that Tehran's recent attack on Israel was aimed at the Nevatim airbase. The official alleged that this base was used by Israel to launch a strike on the Iranian consulate in Damascus earlier in April.

According to Major General Mohammad Hossein Bagheri, the chief of staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, the operation specifically targeted the Nevatim airbase, where F-35 planes were allegedly used to attack the Iranian consulate in Damascus. The attack resulted in only light structural damage to the airbase, as confirmed by Israel Defense Forces spokesperson Daniel Hagari.

Despite the missile strikes hitting the airbase in southern Israel, it remains operational and continues its activities. Hagari mentioned that planes are still utilizing the base for operations following the attack.

The airstrike on the Iranian consulate annex building on April 1 led to the deaths of senior Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) commanders. While Israel is widely believed to be responsible for the attack, no official claim of responsibility has been made.

Bagheri also stated that Iran's operation targeted a significant information center near Israel's border with Syria, further escalating tensions between the two nations.
