Iran elections: Change or no change?

Iran elections: Change or no change?

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani celebrated this week after an unprecedented victory for reformist candidates in Iran's elections - the first since the nuclear deal was made.

Rouhani said the election results "open a new chapter" for the Islamic Republic, but critics argue that they distract attention from the country's ongoing economic problems and human rights abuses.

In this week's Arena, we discuss the impact of the results on Iran's political landscape with Iranian writer and dissident Azar Nafisi and Iranian-American journalist Negar Mortazavi. Nafisi asserts that the real reformers are in prison, while Mortazavi believes that the elections were a big win for moderate voices.
