MUMBAI: A superb all-round performance by experienced left-arm spinner Iqbal Abdullah (68 & 5-48) helped DY Patil Sports Academy beat PJ Hindu Gymkhana on the basis of first innings lead in a Kanga League ‘A’ Division game at the Brabourne Stadium in the Cricket Club of India on Sunday.
Iqbal first slammed a half-century to help DYP SA make 218-4 declared, and then took a five-for to spin out PJ Hindu Gymkhana for merely 105.
The 32-year-old, who has taken 220 wickets in 71 First-Class games, besides scoring 2641 runs (including 3 hundreds and 13 fifties), played for Mizoram last season, and for Uttarakhand in the season before that.
“I want to play for Mumbai again. I feel I can still perform well at the First-Class level for Mumbai,” Abdullah told TOI. He will, however, have to serve a one-year mandatory cooling -off period, and can only play for Mumbai next season.
