For a short while on Tuesday, Pat Cummins, the victorious captain of Australia's 2023 ODI World Cup team, became the most costliest Indian Premier League player ever, bought by Sunrisers Hyderabad for Rs 20.50 crore. But soon, the record by broken by his fellow Aussier pacer Mitchell Starc, who took home Rs 24.75 crore from Kolkata Knight Riders to set a new mark.
Despite sitting out the previous IPL season due to a busy schedule, Cummins surpassed the previous record of Rs 18.50 crore held by England all-rounder Sam Curran, who was acquired by Punjab Kings last year, before being eclipsed by Starc.
Among the other notable players who laughed all the way to the bank were New Zealander Daryl Mitchell, who was bought for Rs 14 crore by the Chennai Super Kings, while Harshal Patel took home Rs 11.75 crore spent by the Punjab Kings.
