IPL 2023: RCB skipper Faf du Plessis wins toss, opts to bowl against KKR

NEW DELHI: Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss and opted to bowl against Kolkata Knight Riders in the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday.

David Willey replaced injured pacer Reece Topley in the RCB playing XI while KKR brought in Suyash Sharma in place of Anukul Roy.

There was some confusion at the toss after the match referee couldn't hear Faf's call clearly who called heads, and it came as heads. Though Sanjay Manjrekar heard it right and confirmed that it was Faf who won it.

"Going to have a bowl. Bit of a misunderstanding with the accent there (confusion at the toss). Was dew last night. Hoping it will get skiddy in the second innings. That's a long way away. Today is a completely new game. Really motivated to put in a good performance. Forced change with Topley being injured. Willey comes in," du Plessis said after winning the toss.

"Was looking to bowl as well because of the dew factor. Anukul is replaced by Suyash," KKR skipper Nitish Rana said at the toss.

Teams:

Kolkata Knight Riders: Mandeep Singh, Rahmanullah Gurbaz (w), Nitish Rana (c), Rinku Singh, Andre Russell, Shardul Thakur, Sunil Narine, Venkatesh Iyer, Tim Southee, Umesh Yadav, Varun Chakaravarthy.
