In a week filled with surprises and upsets, the latest Associated Press Top 25 women's basketball poll witnessed significant shifts in the rankings. South Carolina remained at the top spot with an impeccable 15-0 record, receiving all 36 first-place votes from the national media panel.

Iowa seized the opportunity to climb up the ladder, moving into the second position after a dominant performance against then-No. 14 Indiana. Powered by standout player Caitlin Clark, the Hawkeyes impressed voters with their tenacity on the court.

Colorado also made a strong leap, landing at No. 3 in the rankings. The Buffaloes have gathered an impressive 15-1 record this season, their best start since the 1992-93 campaign. Their success can be attributed to a well-rounded team effort and solid performances in crucial matches.

The previous No. 2 team, UCLA, suffered their first loss of the season, causing them to drop to fifth place in the rankings. The Bruins were defeated by cross-town rival USC, who consequently rose to the sixth position in the poll. This only adds to the highly competitive nature of the Pac-12 conference.

Meanwhile, Baylor, previously ranked fourth, experienced a significant setback as they fell to the 12th spot after losing to both Kansas and Iowa State. The Cyclones, on the other hand, made their way into the rankings at No. 24 following their victories.

Kansas State displayed an impressive surge, climbing five spots to No. 7. This marks their highest ranking since the 2003 preseason poll when they held the fifth position. Stanford and UConn followed closely behind, with the Huskies making a noteworthy four-spot jump to enter the top 10 at No. 9.

The defending champions, LSU, saw their 16-game winning streak come to an end with a loss to Auburn. As a result, they dropped three spots to round out the top 10 teams.

In an individual milestone, Stanford coach Tara VanDerveer stands on the brink of tying Duke men's coach Mike Krzyzewski for the most wins of all time in college basketball. With 1,201 victories under her belt, VanDerveer is just one win away from joining the elite list of coaching legends.

Additionally, Florida State made significant strides in the rankings, rising to No. 15 after securing wins over ranked opponents North Carolina and Virginia Tech. Their strong performances against tough competition caught the attention of voters.
