Investigation under way after driver involved in early morning crash in Northumberland

An investigation is under way following an early morning crash in Northumberland.

Police received a report that a driver crashed into a parked vehicle on Acklington Road, Amble, at 2.20am on Friday.

Officers attended the scene but the driver of the vehicle had already left on foot.

A search was carried out in the area but police were unable to locate him.

Northumbria Police said they were concerned for the driver's welfare due to the severity of the collision.

Officers have since identified the driver and have confirmed he is uninjured.

Police are still carrying out enquiries into the circumstances around the collision.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Shortly before 2.20am today (Friday) we received a report of a collision involving a parked and moving car in Acklington Road, Amble.

“Officers attended but the driver of the vehicle had already left the scene on foot. Officers searched the area and were unable to locate him - but were concerned for the driver's welfare due to the severity of the collision.

“We have since identified and spoken to the driver in question who is thankfully uninjured. Enquiries are ongoing into the circumstances surrounding the collision.”
