International: France tightens restrictions amid Omicron surge

Paris: France has announced tighter Covid restrictions ahead of New Year celebrations amid spike in Omicron cases.

According to the notification issued on Monday, remote working will become compulsory for those who can from January 3 and public gatherings will be limited to only 2,000 people for indoor events, BBC reported on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, France Prime Minister Jean Castex has not announced New Year's eve curfew. According to France's public health authority, over 1,600 Covid patients were admitted in hospitals.

As the number of Omicron cases continue to spread in Europe, several countries have already issued Covid restrictions. Additional restrictions have been announced in Germany and Greece to stem the tide of positive cases. (UNI)
