Chris Sutton has branded Jahmai Simpson-Pusey's loan switch to Celtic as an "interesting one".
The Manchester City defender is set to finalise a season-long loan to Parkhead after Brendan Rodgers confirmed an agreement was in place.
The pundit is unsure where Simpson-Pusey will fit in at Celtic, but expects he won't pitch up at Parkhead to take a place on the bench.
However, Sutton reckons the deal could prove to be a "smart one" with Cameron Carter-Vickers getting up to speed after surgery.
“Jahmai Simpson-Pusey arriving is an interesting one," Sutton wrote in his Daily Record column.
“He’ll not be coming from Manchester City to sit on the bench but is he going to support or replace Cameron Carter-Vickers?
“By the sounds of it, Carter-Vickers is going to need a good few weeks to get up to speed after surgery in the summer, so it’s perhaps a smart move.

“It’s also a long season so you’d imagine Simpson-Pusey will get plenty of game time. We all know the issues are further up the pitch – and they’ll need to get it right.”
Quizzed on a move for Simpson-Pusey, Rodgers said: "He's a very gifted young player.
"He has come through the system at Manchester City, his profile fits very much what we want from our centre halves.
"He's quick, he's dominant, he's a good defender, and of course, at Celtic your centre-backs need to be able to progress the ball and that's a big strength of his.
"We've taken him on loan for a year. We always need all our centre-backs at Celtic. You play so many games, so many intense games and he will join our squad.
"He is obviously a little bit behind because he hasn't played so many games over the course of pre-season but we have brought him through for the rest of the season and hopefully we can close that one out today."
