Inter Milan legend Javier Zanetti is delighted Alexis Sanchez has joined the club on a season-long loan deal from Manchester United.
Sanchez's move to Italy was confirmed on Thursday night and he will link back up with Romelu Lukaku at the San Siro, a player with whom he struck up a good relationship at Old Trafford.
The 30-year-old's move to United from Arsenal in January 2018 did not work out but Zanetti is hopeful he can rediscover his best form for Inter.
“I’m happy about his arrival because I believe he’s an important player who makes a difference to his teams,” Zanetti said.
“Alexis brings qualities which Inter didn’t have up front and will complete our attacking options with Lautaro Martinez and Romelu Lukaku.
"Negotiations with United were difficult but this is part of the transfer window. I hope he has a great season.”
Ivan Zamorano is the most high-profile Chilean to have played for Inter before Sanchez and Zanetti is confident the former Barcelona forward can have a similar impact to his countryman.
“They’ve all made their mark here," Zanetti added. "Chileans are very passionate and have great self-confidence. They’re characterised by their South American ‘garra’ (fighting spirit) and that always emerges in moments of difficulty.”
