An Inter Milan goalkeeper ran over and killed an 81-year-old man in a motorised wheelchair, according to reports.
Josep Martinez, 27, was driving to the club’s Appiano Gentile training ground at about 9.40am on Tuesday morning.
Italian news outlets say the elderly male may have veered in front of Martinez’s car after a sudden medical incident.
Police are at the scene of the crash in the village of Fenegro, near Como.
Leading newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport reports the star immediately stopped and provided first aid to the man.
Inter have since cancelled a routine press conference with the club’s head coach Cristian Chivu this afternoon.
Spaniard Martinez, who arrived at the club last season, has made 12 appearances across all competitions, keeping seven clean sheets.
He previously played for fellow Serie A outfit Genoa, RB Leipzig and Las Palmas and earned one international cap for Spain.
Martinez was expected to feature on the bench for his side’s match against Fiorentina at the San Siro on Wednesday evening.
