Instant analysis: Titans select WR A.J. Brown in the second round

After selecting a defensive lineman in the first round, the Titans opted for more depth at wide receiver.

The team selected former Ole Miss wideout A.J. Brown with the No. 51 overall pick.

Brown has just about all the qualities a team could ask for in a receiver. One of the most important traits he brings to the table is his versatility, with the ability to perform at a high level in the slot, as well as X and Z.

The 6-foot, 226-pounder impressed at the combine, clocking a 4.49 40 at the combine. Scouts were particularly impressed with his route running and overall strength and athleticism.

Brown presents a major threat to opposing defenders on the perimeter, and is also a good blocker that finds no issue picking up some extra yardage after catch.

He was one of the most effective offensive players in Ole Miss history, recordng 189 receptions for 2,984 yards and 19 touchdowns, also earning first-team All-SEC honors on two occasions.

A player like Brown has the potential to bring an underwhelming Titans receiving corps to the next level. We’ll see if he’s up to the task when the 2019 season kicks off.
