To recap the game, here is everything to know.

It was over when...

The Chargers could not capatalize on their final offensive possession. It was 31-28 with a little over four minutes remaining, but they went three and out, and the Broncos ate up the clock to close the game.

Game notes

  • Brandon Staley decided to play the starters for three quarters. While his intention was most likely to ensure they weren’t going into the game against the Jaguars cold, the decision backfired. Mike Williams was carted off the field with a back issue. Joey Bosa appeared to have tweaked something and was tended to by trainers. Kenneth Murray left the game with a stinger and did not return.
  • Despite two fumbles and a few drops, the Chargers’ offensive performance was relatively efficient, going 3-for-4 in the red zone. Justin Herbert was 25-of-37 passing for 273 yards and two touchdowns. The offensive line kept Herbert clean for most of the game, as he was only hit twice and sacked once.
  • Keenan Allen finished the game with eight catches for 102 yards and two scores. Williams, Austin Ekeler and Joshua Palmer each had four receptions.
  • The running game took a back seat after a big showing last weekend, averaging just 2.7 yards per carry.
  • Before leaving the game, Bosa looked sharp, with a sack, a pair of quarterback hits and a few pressures, including when he appeared to have come up with a kink.
  • The defense, as a whole, was far from inspiring. Russell Wilson finished 13-of-24 for 283 yards and three touchdowns. Latavius Murray and Chase Edmonds combined for 148 rushing yards on 24 carries (6.1 yards per carry). Jerry Jeudy had five receptions for 154 yards.
  • Kyle Van Noy picked up a sack, marking five straight games with one.

Notable number

Austin Ekeler surpassed Keenan Allen for the most receptions in a single season in franchise history. Allen’s previous record was 106.

What's next?

The Chargers travel to TIAA Bank Field to face the Jaguars in the Wild Card round. The time and date should be announced tonight.
