Inside this week's ES Magazine: Cara Delevingne, mum tribes & Bananarama

In my mind there are a million and one reasons why I haven’t phoned my mother in what is a shameful amount of time. It must be over two months now, maybe more; just typing that fills me with a new, profound level of guilt. Sadly, there’s no big Shakespearean family drama behind my silence, I’ve just been, well, quite busy. Work, evening dos (mainly work-related, in my defence), a house renovation, a bit of travel, side projects, some life admin and a few cherished moments of self-care (aka the new season of Married at First Sight Australia).

I convince myself that these are valid reasons why I haven’t picked up the phone to check in with the human who birthed me into being — I’ve whatsapped a few cute cat pics (I’m not a total monster) — but the truth is there is no excuse. I’m just a bad son or, at least, a very preoccupied one. So, this is a call to arms for all the sons and daughters of London who, like me, could do better: it’s Mother’s Day this weekend, what are you waiting for? Phone her. I’m going to as soon as I finish this editor’s letter. Promise.

Apologies, that turned into a bit of a confessional... On with this week’s issue. Alexandra Jones speaks to Cara Delevingne as she makes her stage debut in Cabaret; author Jason Okundaye narrates the secret history of Black gay love in south London; we run through the new mum tribes (are you a Ketamum or a Teenabler?); and there’s a My London with Bananarama. PS I did call my mother but she was too busy to chat.
