Inside the SPFL board meeting as taskforce charged with revamping leagues

A potentially explosive SPFL board meeting was turned into a damp squib after Dundee ducked out of breaking the coronavirus deadlock.

Record Sport revealed that league bosses had arranged the talks for 5pm after learning the Dens Park club were finally ready to declare their position on proposals to effectively bring the current campaign to an early close.

And the move came after they received indications that Dundee managing director John Nelms was ready to complete a U-turn and vote the emergency measures through.

But, instead, flip-flopping Nelms released a bizarrely worded statement timed to coincided with the start of the Hampden conference call – in which he admitted that he still hadn’t made up his mind despite agonising over it for four days.

The meeting will now be reconvened for 5pm on Wednesday as Dundee continue to push for reconstruction.

Record Sport can reveal there are now discussions taking place over the creation of a taskforce charged with looking into revamping the leagues.
