Inside the numbers: UGA’s historic ratings against Florida, Notre Dame

The Georgia Bulldogs are one of if not the most watched team in all of college football to begin the season. Georgia has two of the top five highest rated games of the season:

Over fifteen million people nationally have tuned in to watch either the Georgia-Florida and the Georgia-Notre Dame football games. The Georgia versus Florida game had the highest rating of any game this past Saturday with nearly seven million viewers.

The game surpassed last year’s match-up, where UGA pulled away in the fourth quarter. It was a little tighter this year and about ten percent more viewers tuned in:

I suspect Georgia will have some highly rated games in the next few weeks: at Auburn and at home against both Texas A&M and Missouri. In all likelihood, Georgia will play in the SEC Championship against either LSU or Alabama, which will be one of the top rated games of the entire season.

This week’s LSU-Alabama game should surpass the Georgia-Notre Dame game’s ratings. CBS didn’t put the potential number one versus number two match-up in their prime-time slot. Instead CBS chose UGA versus Notre Dame, which did not turn out poorly for the network.
